Our journey to sustainability as an organization continues today as we strive to realize the benefits of a Triple Bottom Line business
model [people - planet - prosperity]. The practice of sustainability is to continually and equitably improve
one's quality of life, an organization's business results and the viability of our community without reducing
the capacity of the environment to provide for future generations. BIE's journey to sustainability is a quest whose goal may never be acheived,
but the results yielded along the way are certainly worthy of the effort.
In 2005, Business Interiors and environments, inc. was recognized as an emerging leader in the local sustainability business movement. BIE was
awarded the GreenCity BlueLake Sustainable Business of the Year Award by EcoCity Cleveland and Entrepreneurs for
Sustainability; two of northeastern Ohio's leading economic development organizations advocating sustainable growth for the region. Business
Interiors was also selected in 2005 by The Weatherhead School of Business at Case Western Reserve University to
participate as a multi-term case study for candidates in the Master’s of Positive Organizational Development graduate studies program.
To quote Ray C. Anderson, founder and chairman of Interface Commercial Flooring, a global leader in sustainable business methods,
‘Sustainability is not so much about what you "do" as it is reflective of "thinking about what you do before you do it." The heart of
sustainability is found by making informed choices on all three fronts [people, planet, prosperity], and gaining the knowledge to act
in a way that doesn't jeopardize the future. Business Interiors and environments, inc. is committed to improving not only our financial
performance to ensure a positive business experience for our associates, our suppliers, and our customers, but serving as an example for all to
look to as sustainability in action. This is what sustainability looks like. This is Business Interiors and environments today.
